Morning in Boulder

November 17, 2018

Groggy

Falling again into the abyss

Of the bed

I forget that all is new

Until a snort reminds me

Then a bark

Then chaos

For no reason

The padding of little feet

And whiskers on my face

I don’t have any pets

Only now I do

The snow falls

The dog barks

(Again

For no apparent reason)

The water drips

The cat licks the milk

From the espresso machine

And the butter from the side of the pan

I write a poem

And no one wants to go outside

I look out the big, wide window

Past the cut flowers

And the water dripping

At a pine tree

And rooftops

I barely remember where I am

But wherever it is

There is much to do today

For exploring

I know nothing about this place

I’m not ready to take on the world

Just this neighborhood

I find myself in.
